Abstract

In this study, it was examined whether the ethnopedagogical functions and codes inherent in fairy tales—considered fundamental carriers of traditional oral culture—have been preserved during their transfer into digital environments. Additionally, the study assessed the alignment of these digital contents with the goals of contemporary educational policies. The research was conducted within the framework of a qualitative research approach, employing the document analysis method; the data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. In this context, 13 fairy tales included in the digital application titled "Masal Masal Türkiye", developed by the Atatürk Cultural Center, were examined. While the population of the study consisted of these digital fairy tales, the sample was composed of narratives containing ethnopedagogical content and cultural representations. The analysis revealed that the fairy tales clustered under four main themes: "Spiritual/Social Testing", "Personal Competence", "Social Relationships and Values", and "Moral Values and Inner Reflections." It was determined that these themes are consistent with traditional educational paradigms as well as the Virtue–Value–Action framework outlined in the Century of Türkiye Education Model (Türkiye Yüzyılı Maarif Modeli). As a result of the study, it was found that even though fairy tales are restructured in digital environments, they continue to possess significant pedagogical potential in terms of cultural sustainability, value transmission, and character education. Moreover, one of the primary objectives of the educational policies pursued in Türkiye is to equip individuals not only with academic knowledge but also with national and moral values. This goal is explicitly emphasized in Article 2 of the Basic Law of National Education (Law No. 1739, 1973, Article 2). The themes identified in the study support the objectives set forth in this legislation.
